CoFEE POLCOMS-WAM model data converted to CF-NetCDF. The POLCOMS-WAM model has been used to generate 11years of tide-surge-wave data across the Irish Sea. This data has been used to investigate extreme conditions in Liverpool Bay and as boundary conditions to drive the XBeach model for the Sefton Coastline. The model data has also been used to fill gaps in observed data to investigate the conditions during periods of large morphological changes in the dune profile along the Sefton coast. The 11 year model simulation starts on the 1st January 1996 00:00 and ends 1st January 2007 00:00. The POLCOMS data is output from the 1st January 1996 00:30, while the WAM data is output from the 1st January 1996 01:00. The model was forced by mesoscale winds and pressure from the UK met. office. These data are provided every hour with ~12km resolution. Boundary conditions for the Irish Sea were provided from the Continental Shelf surge model run at POL for the Met Office, using the mesoscale forcing, and also the Northeast Atlantic WAM model, forced by ERA-40 winds. The model data has been converted to CF-NetCDF using the convention checker v1.4. The Irish Sea model domain is ~1.8km resolution. The model domain extends from -7deg to -2.7deg longitude with 1/40deg grid increment and from 51deg to 56deg latitude with 1/60deg grid increment. There are 34 vertical levels within the model. Outputs are provided at 32 of the levels since the outer levels are for boundary inputs above the surface and at the sea bed if required. The value -9999.00 represents dry land in every model output file. In the file inventory *1 = the date in ‘MMYYYY’ format, e.g. 011996 = January 1996. *2 = the date in ‘DD(start)_DD(end)MMYYYY’ format, e.g. 01_161996 = data from1st January 1996 00:30 until 16th January 1996 00:00. All of the POLCOMS 3DUV data is stored in monthly files from the 1st of the month 00:30 until the 1st day in the following month 00:00. All of the POLCOMS ZUV data is stored in 2 files per month ‘01_16’ files represent the first half of the month, ‘16_last day in the month’ represent the second half of the month. The data files for the first part of the month are from the 1st of the month 00:30 until the 16th of the month 00:00. The data files for the second part of the month are from the 16th of the month 00:30 until the 1st day in the following month 00:00. All of the WAM data is stored in monthly files from the 1st of the month 01:00 until the 1st day in the following month 00:00. The ZUV files had to be split due to memory problems converting the data to CF-NetCDF. * The bathymetry (m) is given in POLCOMS_WAM_bath.nc relative to the mean tidal level - archived at /bodc/POL090139/POLCOMS_WAM_bath.nc * The daily average east- and north-velocities (m/s) for every depth level across the model domain are given in POLCOMS_WAM_3DUV_*1.nc - archived at /bodc/POL090139/POLCOMS_WAM_32UV/*/POLCOMS_WAM_3DUV_*.nc * The surface elevation (m) relative to mean tidal level and the depth average east- and north-velocities (m/s) across the model domain are given every 30 minutes in POLCOMS_WAM_ZUV_*.nc - archived at /bodc/POL090139/POLCOMS_WAM_UV/*/POLCOMS_WAM_ZUV_01_*.nc
